Worked example
An employee earning $22.00/hour works 8 hours of overtime in a workweek (48 total hours).
Overtime rate = $22.00 × 1.5 = $33.00/hr
Overtime pay = 8 hrs × $33.00 = $264.00
Regular pay for the 40-hour base is $880.00, so total pay for the week is $1,144.00. Of the $264.00 in overtime pay, $88.00 is the "premium" — the extra above the regular rate. If this pattern held for 52 weeks, annual pay would be $59,488.00.
