Each deduction shrinks at higher incomes; the linked calculators show the phase-outs. The calculator takes every amount you enter as qualifying (a tipped occupation, overtime required by federal law, a new US-assembled vehicle, Social Security numbers) and figures federal income tax only, not payroll or state tax. See every change the Act made in the 2026 tax changes guide.

Example: a married couple with two children

  • $75,000 in wages, of which $6,000 is overtime premium, filing jointly with two children under 17.
  • Overtime deduction: $720 less tax.
  • Child tax credit at $2,200 instead of $2,000: $400 less tax.
  • Total: $1,120 lower federal income tax for 2026.

Frequently asked questions

What does the calculator compare against?

Each provision is put back to the rule in 2024, the last tax year before the Act, while everything else stays at 2026 law: no tips, overtime, car loan or senior deduction, the $10,000 SALT cap and the $2,000 child tax credit. It does not model what would have happened had the 2017 tax cuts expired.

Why don't the provision lines add up to my total?

Each line is measured with the other provisions in place. Together they can move you into a lower bracket or change whether itemizing beats the standard deduction, so the combined saving can differ from the sum of the lines.

Which years does this cover?

The tips, overtime, car loan interest and senior deductions apply for tax years 2025 through 2028. The calculator offers 2025 and 2026.

Is Social Security covered?

No. The calculator leaves Social Security benefits out because their taxable share depends on your other income. It does include the senior bonus deduction for anyone 65 or older; the Social Security taxability calculator shows how much of a benefit is taxed.

Is the Trump Account deposit part of the tax savings?

No. The $1,000 Treasury pilot deposit for a child born after December 31, 2024, and before January 1, 2029 goes into the child's account. It is shown separately and never added to the tax total.
